In 1993, the first Little Missionaries of the Sacred Heart sisters came to India to begin a mission.
The house was canonically erected as a formation house in December of the same year. Although four sisters arrived, two of them remained to continue the mission in Chathanad, Kerala, and South India. Chathanad is a rural area and the means of living of the people are fishing.
It is a multi-religious village, of Hindus, Muslims and Catholics. The sisters started to visit the families in the village to learn about their situations. After a short period, they started to teach catechism, and to give liturgical animation.
They offered financial help for the people’s studies, and medical help, without discrimination. In these simple ways, the sisters witnessed their charism and spirituality to the people.
The sisters started a nursery school in response to the needs of the people. Although it was quite difficult, the mission continued, with the blessings of the Lord. The present activities of LMSH are teaching catechesis, and through liturgical animation, running the Elementary school, visiting the families and sick and providing medicines, and giving financial support for the education of the poor. Through this, the Congregation has been responsive to the needs of the people. At present, there are 25 Indian sisters. LMSH sisters are in Italy, in America and India south in Kerala, Panakode and northern part Utterpreadesh Jhansi doing apostolate and studies.
